Summer is in full swing and we’ve been swimming in as many pools as we can, staying up extra late, and prepping soon to be released records. I’ve been trying to find time to sit down and write an update and finally I have a chance. Bear with me cause this might be lengthy. I’ll give you a high five if you make it to the end.
If you haven’t heard, there have been lots of happenings in the world of CITIES AVIV. Gavin has been receiving some much deserved attention from national (and international) media outlets. Pitchfork posted a review of his album Digital Lows here. Spin.com included the song “Die Young” from Digital Lows in their best rap songs of the year…so far list along with rappers like Wiz Khalifa, Waka Flocka Flame, Kanye, and Jay-Z just to name a few. Pitchfork also reviewed and included the title track to the upcoming Coastin’ 7″ in their playlist last week.
Speaking of the Coastin’ 7″… it will be out this week. The release show for the record is this Friday, July 8th at Escape Alley in Memphis, TN. You definitely do not want to miss this one. The show is only $8 and everyone gets a FREE copy of the new record. Joining CITIES AVIV on stage will be ROYAL’T, GRIM, and IMAKEMADBEATS. Here is the flyer, spread it around:
Word to the wise, there are only 500 copies of this record and once it is gone, it’s gone. It’s quite possible that we could run out of these at the show (vinyl nerds get there early if you want limited color vinyl). Whatever is leftover from the show will up in our online store the next day.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the ANGEL SLUTS release show a couple weeks ago. It was an awesome show. As usual, the band is not slowing down. They will be touring for a couple weeks this month (July). Before they head out on tour they will be filming a new video and playing a couple local shows.
The Sluts are playing an in store at Spin Street (Highland & Poplar) this Saturday, July 9th. It starts at 2:00PM and you can pick up a copy of their Suesie Was A Nihilist 7″ if you don’t already have one. They will also be playing the first show at The Frame (new house venue) on July 16 with Secret People. See you at both of the shows.

I am also excited to announce that we will be co-releasing the new MODERNHELL Black Sermon 7″ with the band. These dudes are awesome and put a lot of time and effort into their music, artwork, etc. They blew me away with the packaging and everything they did for their last record. The 7″ will have four new songs and they are all killer.
Only 200 copies of this one. We will have 100 on a certain color and the band will have another 100 on a different color. The record will be out sometime around the beginning of August. We’ll have more details about everything soon. Check out the cover art and a couple songs:
As always, it kind of throws me off that we are releasing hip hop stuff. Not that I don’t listen to hip hop or anything, but I just figured I’d always put out punk rock exclusively. Well, staying the same is boring as hell and with that I give you ROYAL’T.
We will be working with ROYAL’T a bunch this year, but first will be the release of I.D.K.. The fourteen song album will be available for free digital download from his bandcamp and ours. It will be up this weekend after the CITIES AVIV release show on Friday. We will have a limited amount of CD copies of the album at the show. They are also FREE, first come first served. Also, we just got in some badass shirts that our good amigo Anthoney Carter designed. They will be for sale at the show and the leftovers will be posted in the online store this weekend.
ROCK FOR LOVE 5 is coming up in August! We are stoked to have not one, but three Fat Sandwich artists playing this year. For those that don’t know, Rock For Love is an annual benefit concert for the Church Health Center. The Center helps provide health care to those that can’t necessarily afford it, including plenty of Memphis musicians. Marv from PEZZ works at the Center and does a ton for the Memphis music community and the city in general. We will have a complete set of Fat Sandwich releases in the online auction and all the proceeds will benefit the Center. There are four days of great music, but we are a little more fond of Friday night.
Friday, Aug. 19 at the Hi Tone
$10. 9 p.m. 18+
Pezz, the Angel Sluts, Glorie, Cities Aviv, Arma Secreta, DJ Lady Problems

If you made it this far you must either be really bored or extremely bored. Either way thanks for checking out the label and supporting and what not. There is a lot more to come this year. Be on the look out.
Special thanks to some great friends of mine who help me out with design, video/photo work, web stuff, etc. Drew Ryan, Anthoney Carter, Daniel Craig, Caitlin East, Ryan Azada, and a bunch more. I wouldn’t be able to continue releasing records without their help.
